The Rest-istance: Cease (Gen. 2:1-3)

Genesis 1, the story of creation. Back in the middle ages when scribes divided the bible into chapters and verses, they decided that this was a good place to start a brand new chapter. Creation was complete.

Or was it?

According to Genesis 2:2, God finished creation on the seventh day.

On the seventh day, God created, blessed and set aside a period of time for rest. On the seventh day, God stopped, and it was good. This rhythm is good: Work, stop working.

In this sermon we kick off our Lenten series on Sabbath with an exploration of what rest is, what rest isn’t, and why it’s so hard for us to stop.
