Sunday Worship Service
Sunday Service
Our Sunday morning gatherings integrate traditional and modern practices to create a purposeful worship experience. We sing, stand for the reading of scripture, engage God’s word during a 25 minute sermon.
In this sermon series on the book of Romans, we’re pivoting from some the ways that Romans has typically been used and instead seeking to understand its contours in relation to its overall purpose - “Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory” (Romans 15:7). We’re calling it The Romans Road Less Traveled.
Kids Commons
We strive to make Kids Commons a place where all kids can feel safe, be curious, and know they are loved by God. Nursesy and preschool are available each week, while Kindergarten/2nd grade and 3rd/5th grade alternate weeks. Families can elect to escort kids to Kids Commons at any point during the morning, and we also specifically invite kids to join Kids Commons right before the sermon.
SoulFood
Please join us after the service for SoulFood, a space to meet, connect, and engage with one another...all over great coffee and a yummy bite to eat.

Kids Night In - Game Night
Hey gamers, it’s back. You're invited to a special Kids Night In - Game Night Edition.
Say hello to your host, Marcus P, and recognize the amazing talents of Artie Craig who’s creating the evening.
We'll gather at the Privitts Home in Bradford. We'll be playing multiplayer games like Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart so that everybody can play, and we'll even be running a Super Smash Bros tournament! Dinner will be provided.
Easter Sunday and After Party
Easter Service
It’s the best Sunday of the year! We pull out all the stops for our Easter Sunday morning service, and instead of having a separate Kids Commons class, this is one of the moments during the year when we all stay together as one united group.
On Easter we’ll add special instruments to the band, decorate the sanctuary with balloons and ribbons. It’s a festive morning!
Easter Party
Easter is the best day of the year. After the service, from 10am to noon, we’ll head outside for the biggest party we know how to throw. We’ll have baby animals to pet and hold, a giant bounce house, professional face painting, ballon-making, music, freshly prepared food, and more. It’s all to celebrate the life we have in Jesus.
Kids Commons
On Easter Sunday, everyone, kids included, celebrate together during our main service. On your way into the service, make sure to grab a special gift that includes all kinds of fun and meaningful activities for kids of all ages.
Mask Policy
We continue to monitor Essex County COVID transmission levels and the most recent CDC guidelines. At this time, we welcome those who are fully vaccinated and at low-risk to remove your mask with humility. When in conversational space with someone who is masked (or under 5 years old), we ask that you wear a mask as an expression of love and protection.

Good Friday
Good Friday Service
Good Friday is a special day in the Church calendar, and we honor that day with a special service reflecting on the death and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The contemplative space will offer us a chance to consider the love of God displayed on Calvary and hear from members of our community who have been engaging spiritual practices during this season of Lent.
Kids Commons
Rather than offer a separate service for children on Good Friday, we welcome children to join us the service in the sanctuary.

Sunday Service
Our Sunday morning gatherings integrate traditional and modern practices to create a purposeful worship experience. We sing, stand for the reading of scripture, engage God’s word during a 25 minute sermon.
During Lent, our sermon series takes an honest look at how busy and stressed out we are with an invitation to incorporate God’s rest into our lives. We’re calling it The Rest-istance: Reclaiming the Rhythms of Rest.
As we observe Lent, each Sunday we’ll share a few simple practices you can use to make room in our hearts and lives for Christ’s resurrection.
Here are some of the songs that are reminding us to take the time we need to be whole and healthy followers of Jesus.

SoulCare Sunday: The Rhythm of Winter
SoulCare Sunday
Practice what we preach! As a tangible expression of our Lent series on Sabbath, we invite you to a special event with Haverhill Commons. Instead of gathering in our normal space for Sunday worship, on SoulCare Sunday, we partner with Rolling Ridge Retreat Center to practice Sabbath rest in community and embrace the wonderful rhythms of winter.
The property at Rolling Ridge includes a quiet lakefront, green pastures, paths through the woods, two prayer labyrinths, manicured lawns, as well as gardens and community growing spaces. All only 10 minutes from downtown Haverhill.
A Spiritual Director will guide us through the spiritual practice of lectio in this beautiful outdoor setting . After some time in contemplation, we’ll gather to share our experiences of renewal and rest with each other, creation, and God
We’ll close our time with a special SoulFood gathering.
This event is open to adults and children, just let us know how many are attending so that we can plan accordingly.

Ash Wednesday Service
Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday calls us back to the paths from which we have strayed, refocuses our attention on both the way and the goal of our journey through life. It is a reminder that we are human. A reminder that we have limits. A recognition of our need.
Ash Wednesday is an invitation to hear and respond to the Gospel again, to consider the words of Jesus: "The time promised by God has come at last!” he announced. “The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News!”
Together, we turn our eyes towards Jerusalem and diligently, deliberately, move to the Cross and onward through death to the Hope of the Resurrection on Easter Sunday.
Kids Commons
Rather than offer a separate service for children on Ash Wednesday, we welcome children to join us the service in the sanctuary.

Lunch with L'Arche
On January 21, Haverhill Commons hosts our 6th Lunch with L'Arche. This is a chance for us to practice our value of Solidarity with a beautiful community located right here in Haverhill. This is one of the best things we do as a church all year.
We will meet at a new location, First Baptist Church, a quick walk from our church building. That Sunday, we'll gather for our normal service, then we'll walk over to the First Bapstis for lunch. We'll share a meal, engage in a community activity, hear from some of our friends living in the L'Arche communities.
We'll be serving a variety of soups (including vegetarian), apple crisps, hot apple cider, and warm bread.
We're looking forward to seeing you there!

We will not have a separate Kids Commons space on Christmas Eve. We invite all children to join our main service and we will have an array of activities and coloring pages available for people of all ages in the foyer.

Family Matters: A SoulTraining Workshop
When you go in for your annual check-up, your doctor will often ask your about your family's medical history going back three generations. The impact isn't just biological - our families impact us in more ways than we realize. How much do you know about your family tree?
On December 3rd right after our worship service, Gary Cushing, our resident expert in genealogical research, will lead us through a special SoulTraining workshop on some of the ways that "families matter." It will be part learning, part exploring, part sharing. We'll talk about the Biblical significance of genealogies and how choices have a ripple effect in subsequent generations. We'll also have a chance to consider how our own family trees have shaped and influenced us.
I'm really excited about this opportunity and hope you can join us for a 90-minute workshop at the church on Sunday, December 3rd, at 10:30am. For those with kids, we’ll have meaningful actives for children to hopefully free you up to attend.
