IMPACT

Foster Care

  • God prioritizes care for the most vulnerable. God could have chosen any way to describe his people - but God calls us family.  No one is born in, all are adopted in. People of every age, nation, race, ethnicity, and gender are given full status as children of God through Jesus Christ. As God’s family, one of the ways we love is to create space for children, who through no fault of their own, do not have safe places or people.

  • As part of our commitment to justice, Haverhill Commons works alongside our local Department of Children and Families to support children in foster care and those who care for them.  Alongside other local churches, we humbly serve on the Merrimack Valley Fostering Hope Network.

Volunteer at the Commons

At The Commons, we believe that we flourish most when we serve together. We're all different, and we each add something distinct to our community. Whether your talent is leading a small group, singing in the band, painting landscapes, teaching kids, or clicking through slides, what you’re good at contributes to the good of all.

Check out the areas where you can serve here.

Haverhill Book Buddies

  • In 2021, we launched Haverhill Book Buddies, a program that pairs adult volunteers with third graders at local elementary schools who serve as their individual book buddy. Over the course of the school year, each Book Buddy provides 3 books and exchanges 3 handwritten letters with their student buddy. We currently partner with two local schools and provide books for over 160 students.

  • This program transfers a love of reading to 8 and 9 year olds at a critical time in their journey towards becoming lifelong readers and lets students know that someone in our community cares about their literary journey. To learn more about the program or sign up to be a book buddy, email haverhillbookbuddies@gmail.com or go to www.haverhillbookbuddies.org.

Local Ministry Partners

At Haverhill Commons we celebrate and support the amazing things happening in our city. Over the years we’ve been honored to work with the following local organizations:

  • L’Arche North Boston - A community where people with developmental disabilities and those who assist them live together as family and a sign of hope to the greater community.

  • Common Ground Ministries - Providing services aimed at alleviating hunger and homelessness, while being an advocate for the financially underprivileged children, youth, adults and elderly members of our community.

  • Emmaus House  - Helping people facing homelessness rebuild their lives and reach their fullest potential by providing shelter, housing, and supportive services.

  • Ruth’s House - Provides clothing and employment training opportunities to individuals and families in need throughout the Greater Merrimack Valley.

  • P.O.S.E. Inc. - A faith-based non-profit helping local community members navigate difficult systems (schools, court, DCF, etc.) and difficult situations.

  • Leaving the Streets - Supporting young people struggling with substance abuse use disorders, homelessness, poverty, gang involvement, and previous incarceration.

  • Somebody Cares New England - Unifying the resources of a community (social services, city and state government, faith organizations, businesses and individuals) to meet the critical needs of the homeless, elderly and youth.

  • New England Seafarer’s Mission - Serving the international seafarers of the maritime business community with spiritual and physical assistance, advocacy, companionship, support and prayer.

  • Bethany Communities - Providing safe and affordable independent housing for older adults of all backgrounds.

When Haverhill Commons Church started, rather than starting new initiatives, we took time to learn about the needs of our local community. We prioritize our connections with neighborhood ministries and community opportunities for outreach and support.
